Stillbirth Claims 26,000 Lives Each Year
Tracking Baby's Movements With kickTrak™ Helps Reduce the Risk of Stillbirth
Los Angeles, Calif. - April 10, 2007-According to the National Institutes of Health, stillbirth claims the lives of 26,000 babies -70 per day-ten times that of Sudden Infant Death in the United States. Fetal movement is an excellent indicator of a baby's well-being and The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends kick counting, the counting and tracking of fetal movements, as one of the methods to monitor pregnancy health.

Diep Nguyen, a Southern California-based, board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist, and founder of BabyKick Alliance, has designed and developed kickTrak™, (www.babykick.com) a hand-held, portable tool to help pregnant women keep track of their baby's movements, all for the prevention of stillbirth.

The kickTrak smart kick-counter is a safe, non-invasive device, which enables moms to keep a reliable diary of their baby's movement patterns. By using kickTrak women can count and time movements, store and recall recent kick count sessions and track the progress of their pregnancy. Significant changes empower moms to promptly alert their doctors to potential problems and reduce the risk of stillbirth.

kickTrak was developed based on more than four decades of scientific research emphasizing the kicks, jabs, rolls, twists, and turns felt by mothers are excellent indicators of their baby's well-being.
Monitoring of fetal movements is not a full time task and ACOG recommends expectant mothers to note the time it takes for their baby to complete ten movements, at approximately the same time each day when the baby is usually most active. Although each baby is different, healthy babies should have ten movements within two hours. Most babies usually do so in much less than 30 minutes.

"The goal of kick counting is not to make moms anxious but to have it be a part of their daily prenatal care," says Dr. Nguyen. "Medical research supports the daily kick counting method as a simple, effective, harmless and reliable way to screen for fetal well-being to reduce the risk of stillbirth."

kickTraktm is small enough to fit inside a pocket or purse, and solves the problem of searching for papers, pencils and misplaced kick count charts. The screen is bilingual, in English or Spanish, and kickTrak is built to last through multiple pregnancies. As soon as a woman knows of her pregnancy she can begin using kickTrak to track her progress. At 24 to 28 weeks gestation she can begin her daily use of kickTrak to keep a reliable diary of her baby's movements. When labor begins, kickTrak can be used to time contractions.
